The History of Certina 

Founded in 1888 by brothers, Adolf and Alfred Kurth as a movement and components manufacturer. However, in 1906, the brothers expanded to become a watchmaking manufacturer and branded themselves after the tranquil town of Grenchen, Switzerland. And were known as Grana, the Latin translation of Grenchen. 

In 1939 the name Certina was born and since then they have grown from strength to strength. Certina watches gained their fame in the 1950’s with the creation of the DS concept. Launched in 1959, the Certina DS was rigorously tested against all conditions to craft a truly impenetrable watch. Soon after, the Certina turtle logo was created as representation of such strength and longevity.  

These remarkable timepieces have found their way onto the wrists of daring mountaineers and deep-sea divers. The DS Concept, which stands for Double Security, ensures robustness and longevity.
